First Home Owner Grant

Find out if you qualify for the First Home Owner Grant

Are you buying your first home? Then you may qualify to receive the $7,000 First Home Owner Grant, a one-off grant to first homeowners that satisfy the eligibility requirements.

If you answer yes to all of the following questions you can apply for the grant when you apply for a loan. If approved, the grant is paid to you at settlement.

  • Will this be the first time you and/or your spouse/de facto has received a grant in relation to purchasing a home under the First Home Owner’s Grant 2000 in any State or Territory in Australia?
  • Will this be the first time your or your spouse/de facto have ever owned a home anywhere in Australia?
  • Will you or your spouse/de facto be applying for the grant as an individual person (that is, not a company or trust)?
  • Are you and/or your spouse/de facto a permanent resident or citizen of Australia?
  • Will you and/or your spouse/de facto be occupying the established home as your principal place of residence within 12 months of either the date of settlement or completion of construction?
  • Is the home a fixed dwelling that meets local planning standards?

There's no need for you to go to your State Revenue Office, as St.George can lodge the application for the grant on your behalf when you apply for your home loan. Please visit www.firsthome.gov.au to obtain a copy of the relevant application form for your State or Territory and for further details of the grant's conditions. If your application is successful, the grant will be paid to you at settlement.
